Young Leaders of Beaufort

Young Leaders of Beaufort (YLOB)

Young Leaders of Beaufort is a pilot program that includes 24 seventh and eighth grade students and 10 school liaisons starting in September and concluding in May.  Students and liaisons meet monthly to address the development of leadership skills, civic engagement and civic awareness issues.

Last year they visited/toured City Hall where they heard from City department heads, held a mock trial in front of City Judge Ned Tupper, met with guest speakers active in our community, joined the students at Riverview to help pack meals for the needy, visited and learned about Penn Center, walked the Spanish Moss trail and debated how it could be improved. The YLOB had the opportunity to spend the day at Bayview nursing home and completed works of art as students and residents collaborated on iconic paintings that reflects Beaufort's diverse community. The Marine Corps Air Station was the last session of the year where the students experienced a day in the life of a marine and the skills they possess to defend and protect the United States of America.

YLOB at RSIA is lead by Tekerria Brown, our Upper Academy School Counselor.  She invites you to peruse the photo galleries of this year's trips and experiences of our YLOB students.
